Thanksbarking!

Hi! It’s me, Marigold!

This has been the BEST year ever! I am sorry I have been away from this for so long but I have been SO busy this year!

Last year ended really badly. Here is my buddy Winston at his last Thanksgiving. Mom loves making us wear silly hats!

We started the year pretty sad.

But then my buddy Bailey showed up!

Bailey and I resting after too much fun!

As you can tell, we’ve become fast friends. Although Dad calls us North American Couch Walruses, but no one understands his jokes.

Bailey is a much more sedate dog than me, she never uses exclamation points and only gets excited when she rushes to steal my ice cream cup after I’m done with it!

The other great thing about this year is that Dad and Mom have been home all year! I have spent a lot of time in Dad’s Casita and helped him keep his treat drawer lean and empty!

And even when they aren’t home we have a friend come and stay with us so we’re never without ice cream or our couches! Plus she walks us almost every day except for when Dad says there is a “weekend? WHAT is a weekend???????? A time for no walks can’t be good!

OH! I almost forgot the best thing ever happened! Our Cat had a hooman puppy!!!!! I have not met her yet but Hank got it from Hattie Mae that there is a new little hooman girl puppy and her name is Birdie! I can’t wait to meet her! I love birds! But I’m a little confused about whether she is Bird or People!!!!!!!

Bailey and I are so Thankful! We hope you had a good year too!

My exclamation point is gone

Hi. It’s me, Marigold.

I’ve always been happy to post here when Winston would let me. Excited even. I know I overdid the exclamation points when I posted. Sorry about that.

Today, this is now my blog. And I’m so sad about it. Forty days ago, my buddy Winston crossed the bridge. I haven’t been able to say anything about it until now. He got very sick on a Monday, spent a week at the vet and came home for a day and a half to say goodbye before Mom and Dad took him back to the vet.

He told me before he left he was happy and looking forward to seeing his Clemmie. He was the best big brother a Basset could ask for.

It’s been pretty lonely here. And Mom and Dad kept crying and talking about him with me. But last weekend, we all got in the car and they didn’t even drop me off where I play with all my friends. We drove a long time, then they stopped at Hank’s house, and they left me there. I was really confused.

When they came back, they had a nice older Basset girl named Bailey in the car. And we all rode home together.

Bailey’s pretty nice and fun. I’ll introduce her later. Mostly, I’ve been telling her about Winston this week. She has pretty big shoes to fill.

Football, You Bet!

So, it’s been kind of quiet since the Winston club expanded earlier this year.  Mom and Dad sleep all the time now and keep talking about how old they are.  Adding another Winston is apparently exhausting. And they’re not old. I’m barely old.

I have, however, begun to see signs of life.  They seem to really get excited when that loud sound of lots of people yelling is on the TV.  It hurts my ears, especially when they are yelling about water rolling in.  I don’t even understand why they are worried about the tide?  The sea must be miles from here?  And I have yet to see any cougars or tigers anywhere about?

Anyway, I hear talk that my favorite hooman of all, Marin Eloise, is coming to these parts today with my Tiffany and Keegan.  I mean, I love Mom the best of course, but how can anyone resist Marin?  Here’s a picture of me and my Marin:

Mom says I make an excellent pillow, but really she makes an excellent blanket.  Like her Mom.

I’m sure that I might have to put up with that Hank the Interloper but the older I get, the less it bothers me.  If he’d only stay off my lawn!

Dad keeps cheering “Eat Em Up” and that is a cheer I can get behind.  Now, if there was just more food!

Eleventy!

So, apparently, today I am eleventy.

It has been a wild year. My Cat got married to her hooman Winston and now the Winston club is permanent! That’s kind of a birthday present for him, but it’s my birthday, so what do I get?  The whole year, that’s really all Mom and Dad have talked about except for Marin.

Cat makes the Winston Club official!

Also, Mom and Dad say I have been in the family for ten whole years today. I remember when they came and got me and Clementine…we had been at various houses and offices or something for a while after I freed us from the empty house. Well, I mean, when I alerted everyone to the need to come and let us out.  And we rode in the back of a giant car and so did Dad. I think Mom was upset that she didn’t get to sit in the back and play with us and who could blame her?

Anyway, again, a gift I give my family for being around so long. What’s in it for me?  Bacon seems like it would be a good present.

I miss Clem still. Very much. So do Mom and Dad. Their voices become sad when they talk about her. But then they start to laugh and tell Clemmie stories. I would laugh too if I could after I was done crying which I also can’t do and wouldn’t for anyone but Clem.

Marigold has slowly become sort of tolerable. I can’t believe I have been putting up with her for three years. We just had two weeks of the Hattie monster visiting, so suddenly Marigold doesn’t seem too bad.

We also have had a lot of Marin visits this last year. Those have been awesome. And she smells so sweet. Here is a picture of us hanging out together. You can tell she loves me.  And I mean, really, can you blame her?

Marin loves me just like you!

Okay, I’m off to discover what nice things Mom is going to do for me for my birthday.  You’re welcome for getting to know me!

More Spa Time

Your Host on a proper couch.

So Mom and Dad took us for a ride to prison on Sunday. Marigold loves it, and I have to admit that since they bought a couch for us to watch TV on, it isn’t all that different from home. But still.

So a few days later, Mom came and got us, but Dad wasn’t there. We looked all over the house but he wasn’t even in his Casita. Winston is not pleased. Normally Mom goes places but Dad stays home with us. Or they both go and both come back. A long time ago Dad used to go away a lot, but that stopped and Winston approved.

If Dad doesn’t come home soon, I’m going to be very annoyed. Unless I get to sleep on his spot on the bed. Then he can move out for all I care. If I get to sleep next to Mom all the time, that would be awesome.

Now, who do I talk to about getting the ice cream I missed while I was in prison?

Tree!

Hi! It’s Marigold! Mom says today I’m a TREE! I thought I was a dog, but apparently I am now TREE! She also said I no longer am Terrible Toes! I feel the same, but I’m am clearly different to Mom!

Mom wanted to celebrate me becoming a TREE! and took me to my spa to play all day with my friends. For some reason, TREE!s have to wear pink hats and eat lots of cake! Being a TREE! is not too bad! And she kept taking pictures of me! I must be the best TREE! ever!

I bet you wish you were TREE!!!!!!!!

Man of the House

So Dad and Mom were sick all day yesterday, which left me in charge. I mean, I think I should always be in charge, but I’m not sure my parents can afford that much Ice Cream. Apparently Marin was ill and Mom and Dad have no power to resist baby illnesses. Or babies. It kind of smelled hooman bad in the house yesterday, but that was doggo good to me.

Also, Dad got a new car, but apparently I’m not allowed to ride in it. Mom said not everyone wants dog hair on them. What kind of people do Mom and Dad associate with?

Mom has been taking me for long walks every day lately. I don’t know what we’re training for but I am showing everyone I can keep up with the crazy Marigold. Of course, she runs around us so much, she’s probably running twice as far. And we walk all the way to where Dad goes to work so I don’t know why he even needs a car? Maybe I need a car? I was the man of the house yesterday and I sure do like to go for rides.

Back

So. Been a pretty busy year so far. My hoomans said there is no such thing as “down time” whatever that is. I like laying down a lot but Dad says I have no sense of time or something. Who listens to that sort of negativity anyway?

This has been the year of Marin. All my people seem to talk about is my wonderful niece. She is growing up nicely but she isn’t able to do much yet except sit and be licked. Which is fine. She tastes like cookies or something. So sweet.

I also had my 10th birthday. Apparently that makes me pretty old in hooman years but I can still keep up with the silly puppy. You know, when I want to. For several minutes at a time.

We’ve had too much jail time this year. Marigold buys into the whole “spa” line but I’m wise to it. Of course, I think the hoomans are sneaking off to see Marin and not taking me with them. Winston does not approve.

Mom and Dad said there was a movie about me a few months ago but they said it wasn’t very good. I mean, how can you make a movie about Winston and not have me star in it? I don’t know who played me but there is no way he was as good as me.

In other exciting Winston news, the Winston club is becoming permanent! My Cat decided that it was such a good name that she is marrying her hooman Winston! Can you believe it? TWO Winstons in one family? It’s just too awesome to believe.

Okay that is enough Winston for all of you for now. Don’t want to spoil you or anything.

Marin Mystery Solved!

So last weekend, Marigold and I went to jail again.  Dad calls it a spa, but no one takes his jokes seriously.  Mom and Dad came back with Hank the Interloper who gave me the scoop.

Tiffany DID have a hooman puppy named Marin!  How cool is that? And I get to meet her at Christmas!  Also, what is the deal with our family and names sounding too close to each other?  Marigold is so confused!

Here is a picture of Marin.  I think she’s adorable and can’t wait to lick that face!

What does a dog uncle get for a new hooman niece?  And how do we get it?  I am pretty sure the only thing I make is not something any hooman would want.

The Bird Is The Word

Ever since I can remember, every fall, there has been this amazing opportunity when Dad brings a large bird in from his office. I call this “Bird Day.” Dad calls his office a “Casita” now because he thinks he has adapted to our new Spanish New Orleans town but he is always sort of weird about stuff like that. My names are better. Anyway, I digress.

Clemmie and I would always know the bird was out there in his fridge and we were on extra alert whenever he went to get it, in case he realized he should give it to us. Or, in case he dropped it. Or, perhaps, tripped over some short hounds of his acquaintance. Smudge often helped in these endeavors. She could be quite devious with her purring and pretending to want to be petted all the while wrapping herself around Dad’s paws.

The other great thing about bird day is that usually the whole family is around. This used to be a lot better before Hank and Hattie. But still, most of the time they are banished and I have run of the family. Not today though. I am behind bars and on the stairs.

So Mom tricked us this year and kept the bird in the house the whole time. I did my best to get close enough to trip her but the puppies are here (again!) and since I was upstairs banished, I missed my opportunity. Winston is not pleased.

If those idiot puppies would just get out of my way, they could have helped me get the bird but instead they settled for Pupparonis. I’m not sure if I am going to be able to sneak in and sit next to Dad at dinner but I am hopeful that I might have a chance to get that durn bird yet.
